Study the Bible Effectively with These Helpful Tips

Have you ever found yourself dozing off while reading your Bible???

Do you find it difficult to focus and understand what’s on those thin pages??

If you answered “Yes” to either one of those questions, you are not alone. I’ve been there!

In my beginning journey with Christ, reading the Bible was not my favorite thing to do. I’m an avid reader; but, my mind would begin to wander every single time I would start reading the Bible. I knew that it was the enemy attempting to get in the way of my time with God.

During these few years of my walk with Christ, I’ve developed and perfected some tips that have encouraged me to stay focused while examining the Word of God. Just a quick disclaimer: developing an efficient study habit does not happen overnight. It takes time and effort. Without further ado, let’s jump right to it!

4 Effective Tips For Studying The Bible

Tip #1: Dedicate A Specific Time And Place Where You Can Study!

I am a busy mom. During the day, I’m usually swamped with household chores and maintaining my blog and our business. The most suitable time for me to quietly study my Bible is after the kids have gone to sleep. Studying at my desk in a comfortable (but not too comfortable) chair with some soft jazz (or Chillhop) playing in the background is ideal for me. For you, you may like to sit on the ground with no music playing. That’s perfectly fine! As long as you do what is suitable for you.

Tip #2: Pray Before You Study!!

This step is super important. Praying allows for you to invite the Holy Spirit into your space. Here’s a simple prayer before your session: Dear God, I thank You for allowing me to be able to sit down with You and Your Word today. Cleanse my mind of any clutter that can get in the way of my time with you. Thank You, God, for everything that you have done for me and everything that You’re going to do for me in the future. Amen.

Tip #3: Take Notes!

For this purpose, I recommend you purchase a notebook to use solely on your Bible notes. The Bible is full of knowledge that is useful for everyday living. When you come across a verse that sticks out to you, write it in your notebook. Write as much detail as to why that verse stood out to you. This process makes studying the Word of God a bit more enjoyable.

Tip #4: Don’t Be Afraid To Ask Questions!!!

Asking questions was probably the first thing I improved when it comes to studying the Bible. There would be times when I would be reading a particular chapter and come across a verse that doesn’t make much sense to me. I write it down and attempt to make sense of it on my own. If I’m still confused, I’ll call someone I know will know how to help me. Do not be afraid to ask questions! You probably won’t understand every single thing that you read in the Bible.

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”

2 Timothy 2:15 (NIV)

I pray that those tips work for you. Comment down below any tips that you use to study the Bible that are effective!! Have a blessed day!

    • I agree with you. If I don’t have my Bible time before noon, I tend to forget. With two little ones running around, it’s easy to let spending time studying the Word slip. Thank you, Jen, for taking the time to read my post!!! Have a great day 😁
