Natural Hair: My Super Simple Wash-and-Go

Natural hair is so beautiful, diverse, and stylish.

Nieshia of Armored with Faith

To give you a bit of background on my hair, I’ve been natural for my entire life. I’ve never permed nor relaxed my hair. My curls are loose. I’d say my hair texture is a 3c, but I don’t care about hair types, to be quite honest with you.

If it’s one thing that I love doing to my hair that’s damaging, it’s coloring it. I love coloring my curls! Dying my hair allows me to be as creative and as different as I want to be. Over the years, color had begun to damage my hair terribly. So, last October 2020, I chopped it all off and started again. No, it’s not my first time chopping my hair off, so it was no big deal for me.

It has been ten months since I chopped my hair off. My hair is growing healthier and stronger day by day. A couple of weeks ago, I colored my ends a reddish color to give my curls a pop of color. Although I colored the ends of my hair, it’s still healthy and thriving.

Today, I want to share my wash-and-go routine. It’s super simple and easy to follow. I don’t use too many products (you shouldn’t either), and it doesn’t take me all day to complete.

Let’s jump right into my wash-and-go routine!

The Process!

The Products I Use:

Most naturals would look at the products I use and wonder, “how do those few items get the job done?” Let me explain; I have learned that it doesn’t take a lot of products to give me the results that I want.

Before I knew any better, I used so many different products on my hair and would have to deal with product build-up. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned that less is more.

For shampoo, I’m currently using TGIN Moisture Rich Sulfate Free Shampoo. This lightweight shampoo has a light smell, lathers well, and cleans my hair without feeling stripped.

I wash my hair twice before moving to the deep conditioner. I’m currently using and loving TGIN’s Honey Miracle Hair Mask. I leave this conditioner on my hair for about 10-15 minutes, and then I rinse it out.

After a good shampoo and deep conditioning treatment, my curls look and feel moisturized and healthy.

I usually wrap a t-shirt around my hair to dry some of the water before applying my styling products. I use the L.O.C method (Liquid, Oil, Cream). There’s no particular reason I use that method, but it works well for me.

I apply Tea Tree Oil to my scalp with damp hair and work it down my strands. I’m careful not to use too much. After applying oil, I apply the Camille Rose Fresh Curl Revitalizing Hair Smoother to make my curls pop.

Using that combination of products gives my hair the moisture and definition that I desire.

Well, there you have it! My typical wash-and-go routine. One piece of advice that I will leave you naturals with today is don’t be afraid to use different products until you find products that work for you. Use products that work well for your hair. Maintaining natural hair doesn’t have to be expensive.
